Would it look weird if I got red clip-in extensions even though I have black hair?

I have shoulder length black hair and I was thinking about getting a natural red color of extensions and cutting them to my hair length. Would that look okay? I'm thinking of doing this because I want red hair, but my mom and hair stylist don't want my hair to get damaged from chemicals and dyes.
