How do I convert MP4 movies to HD without rescaling?

So I have some MP4 clips, each about 50 minutes in length, that I need to edit in final cut express. I've used MPEG4 to convert them to DV and HDV but every time it gets rescale (its widescreen) and squished. How do I stop this from happenning/
